Space Day!

On Thursday, the children in Year 5 had a visit from Wonder Dome Planetarium.

To enhance our current Science topic, which is all about our solar system, Year 5 took part in a space themed day all around their mission to the Moon. To start off the day, the children completed an application form to be an astronaut, where they had to consider what characteristics and qualities were needed to be an astronaut, what planets they’d like to visit most and what they would be able to do to help the others on board the shuttle.

Then, the children headed into the hall to experience the Wonder Dome Planetarium. Once inside the giant inflatable dome, the children got to learn about The Artemis Project, which aims to get humans back to the moon. The children got to see our solar system projected around them and ask more in depth questions from our visitor Ben (who could then project images onto the screen).

After that, the children completed more exciting activities such as completing a personal kit which they would take onboard their mission, a rocket (which the children got to launch using paper straws) and a model shuttle which would aim to land them safely on the moon, using marshmallows as astronauts.
