Holidays

This week in Nursery the children have focused on holidays. The children started this week by talking about where they would like to go on holiday to and whether they have been on holiday before and if so, where they have been to. The children then looked at a basic map and worked together to find where the holiday destinations that were mentioned are and where the UK is located on the map. The children also learned that you can book a holiday by looking online or going to the travel agents. They have also enjoyed exploring their new travel agent’s role play area and the international airport in the small world area. Later this week, the children also looked at different currencies used abroad and talked about how you need a passport to go on a holiday outside of the UK. Furthermore, the children have discussed different types of holidays, such as city breaks and beach, skiing and safari holidays, as well as the different type of accommodation you may stay in. This included tents, cruise ships, cabins, caravans, hotels, apartments and with friends or family members. The children have also thoroughly enjoyed making their own ice lollies by pouring juice into an ice lolly mould and placing it in the freezer. They were great at observing what happened as the ingredients changed when they were frozen and when they melted. In the creative area, the children have made their own sun catchers to hang on their windows at home, decorated paper ice lollies and participated in some rock painting. In the outside area, the children have enjoyed making food in the mud kitchen for their dens and singing campfire songs.
