This week the theme in Nursery has been cooking! The children started this week by listening to a story called ‘Jake Bakes a Monster Cake’ and learning two new nursery rhymes called ‘Pat a cake’ & ‘Hot cross bun’. The children then talked about food they like and dislike and why and then classified a range of food items into healthy and unhealthy. Later this week, the children also made banana cake in the classroom by measuring out the correct ingredients and then following a simple recipe. Lots of children also then made their own cakes in the mud kitchen during their outside learning. On Thursday the children learned the nursery rhyme ‘3 blind mice’, created a story map to help recite the story ‘We are going on a bear hunt’ and talked about who they have dressed up as and why. They were also very lucky to get to watch Year 3 perform their poem. Lots of children also enjoyed exploring our new pizza restaurant in the home corner and making their own pizza’s in the playdough area. They have also been taking orders, writing lists, reading menus and counting money. In the water area, lots of children helped Miss Bloomfield to clean the dirty dishes and strengthened their fingers by placing marshmallows on kebab sticks in the finger gym area.
