Oral hygiene

This week the children have focused on oral hygiene, the job of a dentist and a dental nurse and how to keep themselves healthy. This involved the children recapping what ingredients were used to make Kipper’s birthday cake last week and identifying a range of other food and drinks and whether they are healthy. The children then listened to a story called ‘At the Dentist’ and ‘Mrs Lather’s Laundry’. This led to the children checking their own teeth using a mirror and checking and brushing some manikins’ teeth, washing the dolls and laundry and then hanging the wet laundry on the washing line. In the creative area, the children have enjoyed using toothbrushes and sponges to paint and they have loved making new magic wands for the tooth fairy. This week the children have also learned how to correctly wash their hands by singing ‘if you’re happy and you know it wash your hands’ twice and discussed how germs spread via the glitter experiment and the bread experiment. We have also been very lucky to have student dentists visit on Thursday to deepen our current understanding.
