COVID-19 Infection Study – December Participation

Dear parent/carer,

Harlow Green Community Primary has been selected to participate in the National Covid-19 Infection Study which will take place over the academic year.

The aim of the study is to identify the prevalence of the virus and the level of antibodies within individuals, in this case, within school settings.

What does this mean for us?

For all who agree to be part of the study (children from Reception to Year 6 and all staff), swab testing will be undertaken by a medical team at regular intervals across the year.  These results will then be used to evaluate the national response to the pandemic.

What will the outcomes be when the testing is implemented?

The testing will identify levels of anti-bodies in each person, but it will also identify those in school who have the virus even if they do not have symptoms.

These results may lead to us closing bubbles, due to identifying people with the virus, but it will also enable us to have detailed information that can support keeping our community safe by isolating the right people.

This is a voluntary study, but the aim is to have as high a take-up as possible in order to support validation of results.

All parents/carers and staff are asked to read the information, follow the link provided on the letter (we will have texted the link and the school code) and complete the registration process to identify if they are willing to sign up to the study.  ONLY ONE PARENT/CARER SHOULD SIGN THEIR CHILD(REN) TO THE STUDY.

  • Anyone participating must be registered by the end of Wednesday 25th November.
  • This round of tests will take place between Monday 30th November and Wednesday 2nd December.

Although it is preferred to complete the registration on a laptop or tablet, it is possible to complete this process on a smart phone.  However, please be aware that the return emails can be sent to your email Junk file and will need to be transferred back to your inbox to access the links on them.

It has come to our attention that parents are asked to define the class that their child is in.  When completing the survey, please use the following class names (not the teacher’s names).
