Scrumptious Sandwiches!

In DT, Year Two have designed and made a healthy sandwich.

To begin the children compared a cheese salad sandwich and a chocolate spread sandwich. They identified the ingredients and sorted them onto the Eat Well Plate. The boys and girls quickly realised that the cheese salad sandwich was a healthier, more balanced meal as it contained carbohydrates, dairy and lots of fruit and vegetables.

Next, the children designed what they were going to make. They had a choice of chicken, cheese or ham as their main filling and two healthy extras – spinach, peppers, lettuce or cucumber. After tasting the ingredients, the children sorted their choices onto the Eat Well Plate to ensure it was healthy and balanced.

Then, it was time to make their sandwich. The children used their chopping and spreading skills to prepare the ingredients before assembling their sandwich. Once all the sandwiches were made, the children put their hard work to the test and tasted them. Of course, they were delicious!

Finally, the boys and girls evaluated whether they had met the design brief. The children explained how their sandwich was healthy and how they prepared it in a safe and hygienic way.
