All the pupils were very excited to go on their very first trip in Year One.
On Thursday we all walked down to St. Ninian’s church in Low Fell. Even though it was raining, we enjoyed the journey and talked about features of our local area along the way. Once there, we were greeted by Reverend Danie and Reverend Elaine. They welcomed us into the church and we all sat on the pews. The children were fascinated to learn about the different parts of the church. We were even allowed to walk around the church to explore the different features. They learnt about the font, the altar, the lectern and the organ. They even learnt that instead of stained-glass windows, St. Ninian’s church is decorated with banners depicting stories from the Bible. We learnt about different activities that take place in church such as praying, reading and singing. Reverend Elaine played a hymn on the organ and we all sang along. The pupils held a christening and baby Sam was baptised alongside pupils who volunteered to be parents and God parents. More exciting was the mock wedding, complete with the bride and groom walking down the aisle. Some children even had a chance to try on some of the reverend’s vestments. Everyone had a fantastic time.
