This week, rhyming, rhythm and imagery have been in the air as it has been poetry week at Harlow Green.
All of the children, from each year group, have studied a poet. From John Lyons to Michael Rosen, from John Agard to Shev Silverstein, the children have had the opportunity to study poets from different areas of the world and to hear and perform some of their poems.
Each year group have then written different styles of poems, with themes linked to their Curriculum topic. Year 1 have enjoyed shape dinosaur poems, Year 2 Haikus about fire, Year 3 Diamantes linked to Ancient Egypt, Year 4 have written Kennings about Vikings, Year 5 Kennings about Rivers and Year 6 Ottava Rima poems linked to Remembrance Day. It is lovely to see the enthusiasm with which the children write and perform poetry and the buzz that can be felt around the school as the children do something a little bit different in their English lessons.
