This term, Year 5 have been putting their culinary skills to the test in Design and Technology as part of our exciting Life in the Rainforest topic.
The children designed and made their very own homemade “Dorito-style” crisps using tortilla wraps. After carefully cutting the wraps into triangles, a little splash of oil was added and a selection of seasonings. We had a range of flavours to choose from, including garlic, paprika, salt and peri peri. The classroom was filled with delicious aromas as the crisps baked to a perfect golden crunch!
To accompany their crisps, the children carefully followed instructions to make fresh salsa and guacamole. They practised important food preparation skills such as chopping, mixing and measuring, while also learning about hygiene and kitchen safety. The fresh ingredients linked beautifully to our rainforest topic, giving us an opportunity to learn about foods which are grown around the world.
The children showed fantastic teamwork, independence and creativity throughout the lesson. Most importantly, they thoroughly enjoyed tasting their finished products and evaluating their flavours and textures.
