Creating unique collages!

This week, Year 4 have thoroughly enjoyed being artists in the classroom.

Our Year 4 pupils have been exploring the exciting world of abstract art. Inspired by the idea that art doesn’t always have to represent reality, the children experimented with shape, colour and line to express ideas and emotions in unique ways.

They began by investigating how images can be distorted and transformed. Pupils created collages that broke images into sections, rearranging and overlapping shapes to produce bold and unusual compositions. This allowed them to think carefully about how colours work together and how lines can guide the viewer’s eye.

As a final piece, each child has created a collage of their own face in an abstract style. They have used cutting, layering and thoughtful placement of shapes to distort and reimagine features. We have some very expressive and individual final pieces!

Article 29: Education must develop every child’s personality, talents and abilities to the full.
