Year One had an amazing time at Beamish this week and the weather was gloriously sunny!
The children were so excited to be going on a school trip and after an immensely exciting bus journey, we arrived at Beamish. We tried to visit as many places at Beamish as possible. We started off by riding on the bus. We all had to hold on tightly and listen to the conductor ring the bell before we set off. The ride was very rickety! Next, the children enjoyed the farm. We saw sheep and a sow with some piglets. We talked about the allotment and why there was a scarecrow there.
We also visited the Victorian school room. It was so different to our school. The children had to line up in a separate line for boys and girls and we had to call the teacher “Ma’am” at all times. Everyone had to sit on wooden benches and wrote letters on a chalkboard. We even had a go at reading some words. The teacher was very strict and insisted that everyone should work in silence. Later we learnt about Noah’s Ark and read the words to All Things Bright and Beautiful.
In the afternoon, we even had time to visit the Victorian town and the 1950’s town. We visited the cinema, hairdressers, the police house, the sweet shop, the food store, the bakery and the chemist. The smells in the bakery were simply divine and the children also had the opportunity to see sweets being made!
By the end of the day we were all exhausted but we had so much fun! It was just wonderful to see the smiles and hear laughing and chatter all day. The children were respectful and polite at all times and brilliantly behaved. They represented the school so well with members of the public around. Thanks also to the parent helpers who supported on the day.
