This term in RE, Year Two have been learning about how Christians celebrate weddings.
To begin with, the children discussed Christianity and recognised that Christians believe in God and follow the teachings of Jesus Christ.
Next, they explored a range of different artefacts. The children quickly realised that the objects they had been given were related to weddings. They discussed each item, considering who might use it and what its purpose would be during a wedding ceremony.
Following this, the children looked more closely at a Christian wedding. They identified the different people who take part and the roles they play. Did you know that Christians sing special songs called hymns during a wedding? The class also learnt about the sequence of events in a Christian wedding and demonstrated their understanding by putting pictures in the correct order.
Finally, the children reflected on what they thought was the most important part of a Christian wedding. Some felt that the bride and groom were the most important, as there could be no wedding without them. Others argued that the Bible readings were most significant, as they are what make the ceremony distinctly Christian.
