This week, Year 3 had a wonderful time exploring the world of poetry! We began by listening to some of Michael Rosen’s lively and funny poems — the children loved his playful use of rhythm and expression. Inspired by his words, we then explored a new style of poetry: diamante poems.
The pupils learned how these poems take the shape of a diamond, have 7 lines and contain nouns, adjectives and verbs. After brainstorming some ideas, the children then wrote their own diamante poems about the main character from The Egyptian Cinderella – Rhodopis, before having a go at writing a diamante poem about a subject of their choice. Everyone worked hard to make sure they were full of creativity and imagination and enjoyed reading them aloud to their peers.
