In their recent art lessons, Year 3 have been diving into the world of printing. They began by experimenting with different materials—such as Lego, corrugated card, and sandpaper—to see how using ink and rollers on these surfaces could produce a variety of textures.
Next, the children were introduced to monoprinting. They used this technique to create prints from ink, starting by sketching designs inspired by the Ancient Egyptians. These drawings were then transferred into their art books using the new method.
To build on their skills, the children then explored stamp printing. They began by sketching hieroglyphic designs in their books and choosing their favourite. Carefully, they transferred these onto Styrofoam blocks. Using ink rollers, they coated their stamps and printed the final design into their books.
To conclude the project, each child evaluated their work, reflecting on what they did well and identifying areas for improvement in future lessons.
