Under the Sea

This term, in English, Year Two are studying the book One Day on Our Blue Planet in the Ocean. To help them get to know the text, the boys and girls have created some beautiful art work.

First, the children looked at some images from their new text. They carefully sketched the creatures before colouring them in using oil pastels. Next, the children used blue watercolour paints to add the ocean to their wax resist pictures. The children were then able to use their pictures to correctly predict that their new text was set in the ocean.

Later, the boys and girls created their own fish tanks. They started with a shoe box lined with blue paper. Next, they tore strips of tissue paper and cellophane to create seaweed. After sticking this to their boxes, the children added pom poms to look like rocks. After that, they cut out fish shapes and taped string to the back of the fish. They stuck the string to the boxes to make it look like the fish were swimming in the water. Everyone was very proud of their creations and the children are looking forward to learning more about the animals that live in the ocean.
