Super Sewing!

This term in Design and Technology, Year 5 have been exploring the art of sewing, inspired by Islamic patterns.

To begin, the children carefully designed their own unique sketches, incorporating straight lines, geometric shapes, and even a archway echoing a Mihrab. These thoughtful designs demonstrated their understanding of symmetry and pattern in Islamic art.

Next, the class learned about different types of stitches, including running stitch, back stitch, and front stitch. With great concentration and patience, everyone practised these techniques before applying them to their final pieces.

The children then set to work bringing their designs to life with fabric and thread. They showed fantastic determination and attention to detail, and the results were wonderful. Each finished piece reflected not only their creativity but also the skills they have developed this term.
