It was a pleasure to take Year One to South Shields beach this week.
Amazingly the weather stayed dry, although it was occasionally a little blustery . The children enjoyed the coach journey and it was lovely to hear the squeals of delight as they saw the beach for the first time. When we arrived we quickly took our shoes and socks off and started making sandcastles. Some children turned themselves into a sand mermaid whilst others made an enormous volcano or a kingdom of sand castles. The children had fun hunting for different shells and pebbles in the sand.
At lunch time, we all had a picnic on the beach. We tried hard not to drop our food on the sand. At one point, we were visited by a tribe of scavenging seagulls, just like in The Lighthouse Keeper’s Lunch. They were so noisy and some of them were extremely scary.
After lunch we decided to paddle in the water. It was freezing but so much fun to jump over the waves as they approached the beach. All of the teachers were impressed with the outstanding behaviour of all of their pupils. What an amazing day out!
