Today, 17 children from years 3, 4 and 5 took part in the annual Gateshead Athletics Festival at Gateshead International Stadium.
It is always a hectic day and a roller coaster of emotions competing with 46 other schools from across Gateshead. After last year’s disappointing weather that impacted on the finals, we made it right to the end of the day this year and the team brought home a whopping 10 medals – Gold, Silver and Bronze!
With our Year 6s away on their residential, we still entered a Year 5 team who had a really tough day against some incredibly powerful Year 6s from other schools, with some of them managing to get through to the semi finals, Some great performances in preparation for next year when hopefully they’ll be able to compete again, but a year older and stronger!
The Year 3/4 team had an amazing day – bringing home a GOLD for the boys 3/4 60m sprint, a BRONZE for the girls 3/4 60m sprint, and after some amazing heats, both the boys and girls teams nailed SILVERS in the relay final – which is always fantastic because the whole team enjoy medal success.
It is always a day filled with emotions but this just shows us how passionate and committed the children are towards taking part and doing their best. We are extremely proud of all of them and know that in every event, they put in 100% effort and behaved well over a long day which is both tiring and exciting.
