Superb Sculptors

In Year 6, this week the art unit of work has focused on sculpture.

To begin the unit of work, the children looked at the work of a famous sculptor – Henry Moore. This allowed the children to see how he had created sculptures and how the outline shapes were more important in their artwork than lots of detail. The children ranked his work and gave reasons for their likes, dislikes and preferences.

A brief was given that the children were to design and make a sculpture of people in Pompeii before or after the eruption at Vesuvius. The children then sketched designs before making their own clay models.  When working with clay, the children worked with care and produced some fantastic sculptures also giving them some creative and emotive names.
