They began by learning about the different parts of a plant and discovering the important jobs each part does to help the plant grow and survive. The children were able to identify and explain the roles of the roots, stem, leaves and the flowers. They then carried out an investigation to find out what plants need to grow well. They explored what happens to plants when they aren’t given water or light and carefully observed the changes over a week. Finally, the children dissected a photo of a flower, this allowed them to look at the parts closely, identifying the petals, stamen and other key features.
