This term our topic in Year One is “We’re all going on a summer holiday.”
The children have enjoyed talking about their trips to the seaside and how they like building sandcastles on the beach and eating fish and chips. The pupils have also had the opportunity to learn about seaside holidays in the past. They learnt that families travelled to the seaside by train and enjoyed donkey rides just like us today! We have learnt that children used to enjoy watching Punch and Judy shows on the beach and we made puppets and acted out a show ourselves. In particular we researched seaside holidays in Victorian times. Back then they used to get changed in a bathing hut which a horse would pull out into the sea. Take a look at the amazing bathing huts we made. We even added wheels, a door and some Victorian holiday makers!.
