In Reception this week, we have been learning about the artist Vincent Van Gogh. We took a virtual tour to explore The Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam and looked at example of his famous paintings. The children enjoyed discussing the mood of the paintings, what season some of the paintings portrayed and the shapes they could see in each painting.
As a class, the children worked together to create a collage of Van Gogh’s famous painting ‘Sunflowers’. We used geometric shapes to add texture to the vase and created the sunflowers using tissue paper for the petals, real sunflower seeds for the middle and art straws for the stems. The children loved working as a team to create a unique piece of artwork inspired by Van Gogh.
On our painting table, we set up an art gallery for the children to investigate and explore painting in the style of Van Gogh. Some of the children painted Van Gogh’s self-portrait and some children created swirls inspired by ‘Starry Night’.
