Harmful Substances

This week in PSHE, our class explored the important topic of harmful substances.

Throughout the lesson,  the children learned what a drug is and discussed how different substances — including alcohol, tobacco, caffeine, and medicines — can affect the body.

We began with a game of “Odd One Out” game to get everyone thinking about which substances are safe to use and which can be harmful. The children showed great curiosity and understanding as we talked about the difference between legal and illegal drugs, and why some substances have age restrictions to help keep people safe.

The lesson also focused on the importance of making positive choices and resisting pressure. The children explored scenarios where someone might feel encouraged to try something unsafe, and they discussed ways to stay strong and say “no”  if they ever feel uncomfortable or pressured.

We were so impressed with the children’s maturity, thoughtful discussions, and the care they took to approach this important topic with sensitivity and understanding.
