Year 6 - Wartime Artwork

This week, Year 6 have been developing their drawing skills in preparation for their final pieces next week.

We began by exploring the work of Hans Liska, a famous artist known for his wartime illustrations. The children looked closely at his artwork and completed a short comprehension activity to learn more about his work and artistic style.

We then explored different drawing techniques, including hatching and cross-hatching, to understand how lines can be used to create tone, texture and depth. The children put these techniques into practice by drawing an apple, using shading to make their drawings appear more realistic and three-dimensional.

We also investigated how to create perspective in sketches, draw reflections on water and use lines to show movement. As part of our learning, the children practised drawing a plane, focusing on how lines can be used to convey movement.

The children have worked hard to develop their techniques and build their confidence as artists. Next week, they will bring everything they have learnt together to create their final pieces. We look forward to seeing their fantastic artwork!

Article 31: We all have the right to take part in cultural and creative activities.
