Super Geographers: Exploring our local area

In Geography, Year Two, have been learning about features of maps and what they are used for.

To begin, the boys and girls completed some geography fieldwork within the school grounds. They matched photographs to the related map symbols, e.g., climbing frame and gazebo.

Next, the children learned how to describe directions using a compass to identify North, East, South and West.  Using a compass, they followed directions to a given location on the school grounds and went on to describe the route they had taken.

Then, the boys and girls looked at an aerial map of the local area and identified features, such as the Angel of the North and the River Team. Finally, they sorted human and physical features into their relevant categories using their geographical knowledge.
