Book Launch - Friend or Foe
This week, Year 6 have been introduced to their new English text - Friend or Foe by Michael Morpurgo.
The text is a story of two boys and their evacuation from Islington, London to Devon. It then follows their adventures once in the countryside. The classes were shocked on Thursday morning when a loud siren had them scrabbling for their identify cards and having to evacuate the classrooms. Some of the children were chosen to be the air raid warden and an evacuated child. We then all gathered in the 'air-raid shelter' outside.
Once outside, the children discussed how it would feel for this to be a regular event and how distressing it would be to be evacuated and to be unsure if they would ever return home. We then looked at items from a suitcase that revelated clues about the main character and their story. When the children returned to the classroom, they made predictions about what might happen and considered why the book might have its title - and who the foe might be!
