Year Two Visit the Centre for Life
Today, Year Two visited the Centre for Life. They had so much fun exploring the different zones and learned about what life is like as an astronaut.
The boys and girls visited the Space Zone where they pretended to be an astronaut on the International Space Station (ISS) and even had the opportunity to work in Mission Control. They had great fun making themselves into astronauts and sitting on the space toilet.
As part of their visit, the children took part in a Living in Space workshop where they found out what life is like on board the ISS. For their first activity, they had to choose what an astronaut would eat for breakfast. However, they had to pick a meal that was healthy and weighed less than 100g. Next, the children explored how Velcro keeps everything in place on the ISS, from the astronauts when they’re sleeping to the cutlery they put on their dinner tray. Finally, the boys and girls practised screwing a nut to a bolt, with and without a pair of gloves. Although they found it trickier wearing the gloves, the material was only made of one layer. An astronaut’s gloves have 16 layers making their job very difficult indeed.
