Year 6 - Electricity
This half term, Year 6 have been exploring electricity and developing their understanding of how circuits work.
We began by experimenting with different circuit components and learning to recognise and draw the correct circuit symbols. The children then investigated how many different ways they could create a complete circuit and built circuits to meet specific requirements.
Next, the children practised drawing circuit diagrams using the correct symbols and labelling their components. They also became circuit detectives, investigating broken circuits, explaining why they wouldn't work and making changes to get them working successfully.
We then explored the two types of electricity: static electricity and current electricity. The children investigated the differences between them and created informative posters to showcase their learning and explain the key features of each type.
Finally, we began an investigation into whether we could make a bulb brighter or dimmer. The children made predictions and explored how to plan a fair test, considering the equipment, method and results before drawing conclusions and evaluating their investigation.
Year 6 have worked hard to develop their scientific knowledge and practical investigation skills throughout this unit. We look forward to seeing them apply their learning in future science investigations!
