Roaring Success: Year 1 Bring 'Dear Dinosaur' to Life!
Our Year 1 classroom was filled with prehistoric excitement this week as we celebrated the launch of our fantastic new book, Dear Dinosaur by Chae Strathie! The children dived headfirst into the world of Max and his prehistoric pen pal, T-Rex, with a series of wonderful creative and interactive activities.
Here is a look at what our young palaeontologists and authors have been up to:
- Fossil Making: To kick off our adventure, the children stepped into the shoes of real scientists! Using clay and special dinosaur stamps, they carefully crafted their own ancient fossils, exploring textures and shapes.
- The Big Cliffhanger: We gathered together for a special reading of the story but stopped at a truly thrilling moment—just as Max posted his very first letter to the dinosaur!
- Prehistoric Predictions: With the story paused, the children became authors themselves. They made brilliant, imaginative predictions about what might happen next. Will the T-Rex write back? Will the dinosaur post a letter? Will Max be able to see the dinosaur again?
- Story Sequencing: To show off their comprehension skills, the children worked hard to sequence the events of the story so far, arranging a series of pictures in chronological order.
- Exploring Emotions: Finally, we put on our empathy hats. The children deeply considered Max’s feelings, discussing how his emotions might change and shift at different points throughout his journey.
