Investigating Water Resistance
This week in Science, Year 5 have been investigating air and water resistance.
The children learned that both air and water resistance are opposing forces that act against objects they move through. We explored how the shape of an object can affect the amount of resistance it experiences, and looked at how streamlined shapes can help objects move more easily through water.
The children carried out a practical investigation where they created different shapes and dropped them into water to observe how their shape affected the water resistance they experienced. The children made predictions, tested their designs and compared their observations to see which shapes moved through the water most easily.
