Butterflies
Over the last few weeks, Reception have been busy learning about the fascinating life cycle of a butterfly. We carefully observed our caterpillars each day, noticing how they grew bigger and changed over time. The children were excited to watch them form their cocoons and loved making predictions about what would happen next.
Once the butterflies emerged, we spent time observing their beautiful wings and learning lots of interesting butterfly facts. We discovered what butterflies eat, the stages of their life cycle, and how they help our environment. The children showed great curiosity and asked many thoughtful questions.
As part of our learning, we also explored symmetry. We looked closely at butterfly wings and identified the matching patterns and shapes on each side. The children created their own symmetrical butterfly artwork using a variety of colours and materials.
Our topic ended with the exciting release of the butterflies into the wild, a wonderful experience that everyone enjoyed and will remember.
