This week in English, the children were excited to uncover their new class text. The adventure began with a series of clues: a necklace, a jagged piece of rock, and striking cave paintings. These sparked lots of discussion and imaginative predictions – some even guessed the necklace might be made from bones and teeth!
Next, the children put their listening skills to the test, following step-by-step instructions to craft their own Stone Age necklaces from clay. Once their creations were complete, the big reveal came… our new story is Stone Age Boy!
Since then, the class has been exploring how the author uses language to paint vivid pictures in the reader’s mind. Using a thesaurus, they hunted for synonyms for the verb walked and then wrote two contrasting sentences to show how word choice can completely change the image.
