Year 3 enjoyed an exciting trip to a synagogue and the BALTIC Centre for Contemporary Art in Gateshead.
At the synagogue, our host gave us a fascinating tour and explained the many different ways the building is used including religious services, celebrations, interfaith events and for study. The children learned about important features found inside a synagogue and what they are used for during worship and community gatherings. We also had the opportunity to ask lots of thoughtful questions, especially about how Jewish families recently celebrated the festival of Purim.
In the afternoon, we visited the BALTIC where the children took part in a creative watercolour workshop inspired by the artist Cheng Khee-Chee. The pupils experimented with a range of techniques, using wax, salt and even coffee to create interesting textures and effects in their paintings.
The children were enthusiastic, curious and wonderfully behaved throughout the day. We are very proud of how they represented our school and how creatively they approached their artwork.
