People Who Help Us

This week in Reception, we have been learning all about People Who Help Us, and we were very lucky to welcome some very special visitors into our classroom, our families! We invited parents and carers to come in and tell us about the jobs they do, and we were amazed by the wide range of interesting and important work they shared with us. We found out how signs are designed and made for lots of different companies by Astley, how people work in online banking to take calls and help others look after their money, and how the security team at the Metro Centre help to keep everyone safe, find lost children, and even catch criminals! We also learned about metal workers who make parts for bin lorries and work on different metal projects, discovered how a doctor fixes children’s broken bones, how a nurse gives patients medicine, and how a town planner helps to design and create new housing estates for people to live in. We were especially excited to be visited by our school’s lollipop lady, who told us all about her important job and taught us how to cross the road safely. The children asked fantastic questions and loved listening to our visitors. We were so impressed by how confidently they spoke and how curious they were about the world around them. It was wonderful to see how many different ways grown-ups help others every day. A huge thank you to all of our visitors for giving up their time.  It was a truly exciting and inspiring week in Reception!
