Henpower is a project managed by Equal Arts, a registered charity who aim to provide creative opportunities for older people. The project is funded through Big Lottery Fund Silver Dreams programme. Henpower aim to set up hen keeping in older peoples care settings to offer fun and stimulating activities, this ranges from residents, families to other independent living older people.
Each care setting is supported by a small network of volunteers who either know about hens or enjoy looking after them. Each project has weekly activities based around hen keeping which can include: creative writing, digital photography, local history or other creative activities that residents may want to try out.

Harlow Green are thrilled to be working with Henpower. We hope our project will span through the generations and bring the young and old working together. The hensioners (hentastic pensioners) have already paid a few visits into school, bringing along their passion and knowledge which they have been sharing with our children. We will be working with Henpower to develop a new coup to keep our new hens fit and healthy.
Our Local Project!
Some of the year sixes have been doing a project at a local sheltered housing community, Angel Court. This was a creative project in partnership with the Equal Arts council. The residents gave such a warm welcome and worked with the children sharing valuable skills and experience. Miss Rowe will be planning more activities with them and hopefully many other existing projects coming soon.
