Due to the weather conditions and lack of available teaching staff, the school will unfortunately be closed on Wednesday 6th Januray. We are sorry for any inconvenience this may cause.
Just a reminder that the staff working in Year 3 are Mrs Kennedy, Miss Holmes and Mrs Lewis. We would welcome any parental help or if you have any talents you would like to share with Year 3 please fell free to contact us at school.
This term our topic is The Romans and we all went on an educational visit to the Roman site Arbeia, in South Shields. We will be continuing to learn more about the Romans until Christmas. In the new year our topic will be Pets.
In the spring term our new topic is Chocolate. This will be taught through our art, DT, Literacy, music, geography and dance lessons. We won't be eating chocolate every lesson but Miss Holmes hopes to fit it in asy many times as possible.
In our ICT lessons we will be visiting the City Learning Centre in Gateshead to do some work on sound.
In science we will be working on magnets and springs and healthy eating and teeth. This will link well with our work on chocolate!!!

Hello. My name is Mrs Williams and I am teaching in Year 3 this year. My main subject is music so I love getting involved with children singing. We have been very busy in Key Stage 2 preparing a performance of Baboushka for Christmas.
Numeracy
1. Start to learn all the facts in the 2, 5 and 10 times tables to rapid recall. Sing, chant,
play bingo and write to help learning.
2. To help with work on money play 'shops', asking how much items will cost altogether and
what change they expect to get.
3. Encourage your child to tell the time, both on a digital and analogue clock.
4. At home and at play ask your child to identify 2D and 3D shapes.
5. Play board games and card games where children practise counting forwards and backwards.
Literacy
1. Read daily with your child and sign the reading record book weekly.
2. When reading ask your child what they think will happen next, who the characters are, what
the plot is, where the settings are and what they think of the book.
3. Practise letter formation and handwriting whenever the opportunity arises - in the sand,
writing postcards, shopping lists, thank you notes etc.
4. Encourage your child to use a dictionary when they are unsure about the meaning or
spelling of a word. This will help not only your child's alphabetical order skills but encourage
them to be independent learners in class, finding spellings for them selves.
5. Give your child the time to talk about what they have done to improve their speaking and
listeneing skills.
