Top Tips

Maths
To help your child develop their maths skills here are some tips for things to do at home:

Empty your pockets!
Can your child name the spare coins you have? Can they select the right coins to pay for an item in a shop?

How long is a piece of string?
Encourage your child to help you measure ingredients using appropriate equipment. Compare heights in your household, who is the tallest?

Got your number!
Encourage your child to read numbers on buses, doors, signs, etc. Count in steps of 2, 5 and 10 instead of only 1s. Practice sharing using fruits or sweets.

Year 2 Curriculum

In Year 2 during the spring term we are currently looking at the topic of Islands. We have researched a number of islands and we are going to create our own island designs. We will be basing a lot of our work around the Katie Morag stories and comparing the mythical Isle of Struay to the Isle of Coll in Scotland.

During the summer term we will be looking at two different topics; dinosaurs and children during World War 2. This will give the children the opportunity to learn about two exciting eras from the past.
